An international scientific gathering to exchange expertise on environmental innovation and resource management
The city of Agadir will host, on November 12–13, 2025, the International Conference on Water, Materials and Environment (WaMEC 2025). The event is organized by the Laboratory of Applied Chemistry and Environment (LACAPE) at the Faculty of Sciences, Ibn Zohr University, in partnership with the Multidisciplinary Research and Innovation Laboratory (LMRI) at the Multidisciplinary Faculty of Khouribga, and the Moroccan Association of Applied Sciences and Environment (AMSAE).
This edition follows the remarkable success of the 5th International Conference on Materials and Environment (JIME 2019) and aims to provide an open scientific platform for researchers, academics, and experts from around the world to share insights and advances in the fields of water, materials, environment, and sustainable energy.
More than 250 scientists and researchers from France, Romania, Spain, Ghana, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Morocco are expected to participate through 11 plenary sessions, 150 oral presentations, and 50 poster sessions, combining scientific discussions and applied workshops.
The conference will officially open on Wednesday, November 12, with keynote addresses by prominent scientists, including Prof. Lhoussaine Bouchaou (Ibn Zohr University) on “New Technologies for Water Resources Management: Insights from Morocco”, and Prof. Mohamed Taky (Ibn Tofail University, Kenitra) on “Desalination in Morocco: Opportunities, Challenges and Research Perspectives.”
Other key topics will include: Enzyme Biocatalysis for Agro-Resource Valorization (Prof. Renato Froidevaux – University of Lille, France),
Tertiary and Quaternary Urban Wastewater Treatment and Reuse in Europe (Prof. Luigi Rizzo – University of Salerno, Italy),
Marine Plastic Pollution and Integrated Response Strategies (Prof. Ahmed Khalil – Fayoum University, Egypt), Biodegradable Polymers for the Development of Slow/Controlled Release Fertilizers (Prof. El-Houssaine Ablouh – Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, Morocco).
The WaMEC 2025 conference aims to foster scientific dialogue around sustainable water and environmental management, eco-innovative material development, industrial pollution reduction, and natural resource valorization. It also promotes collaboration between universities, research centers, and industry to accelerate the transition toward a circular economy and sustainable development.
The event will conclude with an award ceremony recognizing outstanding scientific contributions and innovative research, celebrating creativity and excellence among young researchers.
Organizers expressed their gratitude to the Presidency of Ibn Zohr University, the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research (CNRST), and all institutional and socio-economic partners for their support. They emphasized that Agadir is emerging as a key scientific hub and an ideal venue for global dialogue on the environmental future of Morocco and the world.
