The repercussions of the new Corona virus have cast a shadow over those working in the surfing sector, or what is known as “the surf”, on the beaches of Agadir, extending from the city to the Imsouane region, passing through several dirt groups under the influence of the Agadir-Idaotnan region.
Hassan Odeidh, head of the Imouran Wave Riding Association, said in a statement to our correspondent, that the impact of the virus on the association’s practitioners of this sport was great because they adhered to the quarantine and refrained from entering the beach, in implementation of the instructions of the ministries of health and interior, stressing that they suffer today from poor physical fitness as a result of that.
For his part, Mustafa al-Kareh, an employee at a surfing school in the community of Imswan, confirmed in a statement to our newspaper that the workers in this sector have closed the doors of their stores and stopped various activities related to this field since the announcement of the health emergency, but this caused the professionals heavy material losses and income. Some of them are in a severe financial crisis.
The spokesman added that the situation is so tense that some were unable to ensure their livelihood, noting that before Corona, workers in this sector were flourishing with domestic and foreign tourism, but as soon as this pandemic entered Morocco and the borders were closed, the economic movement in the region stopped completely.
In turn, Mubarak Kodar, a surfing teacher in the Imswan region, explained in an interview with the MMN reporter that the professionals were greatly affected after they accumulated debts, rent, water and electricity extracts and other consequences, calling on the government to pay attention to them and find effective solutions to this crisis, stressing that the majority have never benefited. From supporting the Corona Fund, like the rest of the sectors affected by Covid-19.
