Morocco has achieved a remarkable scientific milestone as several Moroccan researchers topped the list of leading scientists in the field of Earth and Planetary Sciences for the period 2020–2025, according to the global SciVal platform, which is internationally recognized for tracking research performance and scientific innovation.
This outstanding achievement reflects continuous dedication and sustained research efforts. Moroccan researchers demonstrated strong presence through prolific and high-impact scientific production, crowned by the first-place ranking in Morocco of Abdelghani Chehbouni from UM6P, who recorded 104 scientific publications and more than 1,800 citations, outperforming hundreds of researchers in the region.
Other prominent names also stood out, including Z. Benkhaldoun, Mostafa Benzazoua, Salah Erraki, lhoucine bouchaou, among others who have strengthened Morocco’s position on the global research map through high-quality work covering water issues, climate, geology, space sciences, and ecosystem changes.
This achievement testifies to the growing level of academic research within Moroccan universities and scientific centers, as well as their efforts to support high-impact publishing, international partnerships, and applied research. It also reflects Morocco’s strategic vision in enhancing its scientific standing within its regional, African, and Arab context.
The presence of Moroccan researchers in this international ranking is a source of pride and a call for further investment in scientific research, encouraging young scientists, and supporting innovation centers to sustain and reinforce this trajectory.
