Chefchaouen – Mohammed TAFRAOUTI
From September 10 to 13, 2025, the Blue City will host the 14th edition of the International Environmental Film Festival (FIFE), organized by the Talassemtane Association for Environment and Development, in partnership with the Grouping of Territorial Communes “Talassemtane,” with the support of the Moroccan Cinematographic Center and the Regional Council of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima.
Postponed last June, this new edition reaffirms FIFE’s role as a major event at the crossroads of cinema, ecology, and cultural tourism. Under the theme “Green Cinema for a Healthy and Sustainable Climate”, the festival continues its mission: to make the 7th art a gentle yet powerful tool to raise awareness of climate and environmental challenges.
Cinema: A Mirror and Driver of Ecological Awareness
Since its inception, the festival has highlighted the power of cinema to touch consciences, awaken minds, and spark debate around complex issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
Through screenings, debates, and meetings, FIFE demonstrates that moving images can act as catalysts for social transformation and as advocacy tools accessible to all generations.
A Unique Signature: “A Plastic-Free Festival”
The first of its kind in Morocco, the Arab world, and Africa, FIFE stands out with its bold choice of being a “plastic-free festival,” setting an example of a cultural event aligned with the very values it promotes. This symbolic gesture reflects a commitment to ecological consistency beyond mere words.
National and International Outreach
With the participation of renowned artists, filmmakers, researchers, and activists, the festival positions itself as a platform connecting the worlds of cinema and ecology. It draws attention not only nationally but also internationally, strengthening Morocco’s place within green cinema networks and cultural cooperation.
Each year, prominent figures from cinema and pioneers of environmental action are honored with the title of “Ambassadors of the Environment,” a recognition that echoes collective efforts to build a sustainable future.
Chefchaouen: The Blue Capital of Culture and Ecology
Beyond the screens, FIFE is rooted in a broader effort to showcase the natural and cultural heritage of the Chefchaouen Geopark, a unique area combining spectacular landscapes, biodiversity, and local traditions. Screenings and activities will take place across Chefchaouen, Bab Taza, and Akchour, allowing audiences to discover the richness of the region.
By combining cinema, ecology, and cultural tourism, the festival contributes to strengthening Chefchaouen’s image as an international destination for sustainable development.
