Olive production is expected to increase by 21 percent from the previous crop year, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response to an oral question on “the new crop year” in the House of Councilors, Mr. Sadiki stressed that citrus production is expected to increase by 14% and olive production by 21% compared to the previous campaign, with an increase in the area planted to reach 1,200,000 ha, an increase of 4%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, Mr. Sadiki noted that the delicate situation imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic across the world has highlighted the central role of the farmer and the agricultural sector in Morocco in the financing of domestic markets and in achieving food security, noting that the modernization and professionalism that now characterize Moroccan agriculture, as well as the structured national fabric of agricultural production, made it possible to achieve figures and indicators during the previous agricultural season that make it one of the best seasons ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this regard, the Minister pointed out that the agricultural added value recorded, during the previous season, a significant growth estimated between 17 and 19%, and this thanks to the good results of the various production sectors, in particular cereals, fruit trees and animal production, which will help revive the national economy and improve its performance to achieve a growth rate of over 5.5%, particularly after the impact of the pandemic of Covid-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this context, he raised that the total production of cereals reached 103.2 million quintals, the second best production in the history of Moroccan agriculture, while the production of fruits and vegetables amounted to significant levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister also noted that the production of the main fruit trees during this season will be significantly higher than the previous campaign, according to initial forecasts, especially in the event of an improvement in climatic conditions at this juncture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding animal production, continues Mr. Sadiki, the number of herds has remained stable thanks to the livestock assistance program developed by the ministry, despite the succession of two agricultural seasons characterized by a rainfall deficit, in particular. In certain regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also noted the good state of health of the herd at the national level thanks to the health monitoring and the various vaccination campaigns carried out by the National Food Safety Office (ONSSA) and the efforts of accredited private veterinarians and health professionals. sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
